LONE SURVIVOR: 27.3.2012

It gives me great pleasure to finally announce that LONE SURVIVOR will be debuting on PC & Mac on Tuesday, 27.3.2012 (that’s 3.27.2012 in American or 2012.3.27 in Japanese.)

The price of this piece of interactive entertainment will be ten American dollars ($10.)  This will be for the Standard Edition (which includes DRM-free updates for life, and access to both Mac & PC versions.)

There will also be available a ‘First Aid Edition’ which is partly intended to help support future freeware development.  If I could, I’d make all my games for free, but unfortunately my wife, my child and even I need feeding.  Any funds I make from this edition will go into paying myself a survival salary while making these games.  The First Aid Edition will be priced at a ludicrous $50, but will also include the Lone Survivor OST, as well as an exclusive short game to be finished afterwards (LS3D – a side adventure to Lone Survivor,) as well as a couple of mystery gifts, such as scans of designs and artwork from the game, to be decided.

On the subject of future updates, there are still two more secret endings I’d like to add to the game.  While the game is fine and complete without them, I think it would be fun to have a couple more to explore on a second playthrough, and one of them I actually have something quite silly planned for.

This does depend on whether the game makes enough money for me to continue my indie career, but if it does, rest assured you’ll get a free Special Endings Edition when the time comes!

In addition, as thanks for early support, the first 1200 buyers will receive a copy of the Soul Brother OST, normally priced at $5.

I’m actually assembling the final build of the game tomorrow, fixing the last 15 minor bugs or so, and removing cheat modes I put in for testing.  It feels like I’ve been making this game forever, and I’m still sort of in shock I can’t find much more to add or fix.  It really is finished.  And, I have to say, it’s one of the rare things I’ve made that I’m kind of proud of, in 15 years of making things for a living!

It will launch initially through my website only (a new site for the game itself, which is under construction at the moment.)  You’ll be able to download or play the demo in your browser, to see if you’d like to purchase it.  There will be a nice new launch trailer (I’ve already 99% finished it, but I’m saving it for just before launch.)

More than anything, I hope you all get something out of playing it. Heartfelt thanks to you all, for sharing the long journey with me, and supporting a game which tries humbly to do something a little different.

Jasper

    @Jon
    Nevermind the OST question, I missed your comment before on how it would be available soon. 🙂

    Hi there,

    Tried out the demo, game is super fun. Love the music! I’m sad to see only a $10 and $50 option. Couldn’t we have something in between? A $20 or $25 option would suit me nicely. I’d be happy with the game + plus the OST, but sadly the OST is only with the $50 version. I don’t even pay that much for new AAA releases, I wait till they go down a bit. I’m all for supporting indies, I just feel like $10 isn’t enough, but $50 is too much for my finances.

    Just some thoughts, or maybe offer your LS OST for $5 somewhere? I’d totally buy it.

    There will definitely be a Steam version, if Steam decide to pick it up. I’ll be resubmitting the finished build to them shortly. Fingers crossed, eh?

    Excellent, have been looking forward to this for a bit. When you said the release date might surprise I thought it would be at least a month or two!

    When are you going to put up the purchasing details? Might be an idea to allow people to pre-purchase, so we’re not all trying to ram our card details in at once.

    Regardless, looking forward to getting this on the Tuesday!

    Thanks for the kind comments everyone. I’m really looking forward to hearing your thoughts and interpretations of the game.

    A linux version is definitely a possibility. I don’t have a linux machine though. I’ll be able to do one at some point providing it runs alright. The last time I tested was a while back, but it was ok.

    I’ll aim to look into it right after release! Rest assured, if you buy the game in its current formats, you’ll get the linux build for free when it comes out.

    @ericfoot

    I am looking into doing archive-quality art prints (signed if the customer wants), rather than a physical copy of the game, if I can find the right quality and pricing. As Standard Edition is intended to support whatever my next commercial project is, the First Aid Edition really is aimed at supporting my freeware work… so I can enter more jams or do the odd week or month-long free game. I’ve been unable to do this for the last year as I’ve only just had the funds to support the development on Lone Survivor (and I’ve gone through my emergency savings in the last few months.)

    A physical copy of the game would make it too expensive to be feasible (I wouldn’t do it unless it looked absolutely professional.) Of course if you’d just like to donate some money but don’t want to spend the $50, the Standard Edition will still be a great help! LS3D itself will probably be made available a good while after the game’s been out, but the customers of the First Aid Edition will receive it first. Besides that there’s the Lone Survivor OST, which will be purchasable separately anyway, shortly after release, if you’d like to go for the Standard Edition.

    @Sefam
    It’s up to you! I really value your support, but there’s no need to stretch to the First Aid Edition if you’ve already effectively donated to me. All I can say is thanks, anyway!

    I’ve been following this one closely for a while now and I just wanted to let you know that this is an absolute day-one buy for me. It really seems like you’ve poured your heart and soul into it and I cannot wait to find out what it’s like. Congratulations, thank you, and well done. I hope you get some rest and all the success you deserve!

    I don’t know if I’m eligible for a discount, I believe I gave 30$ to support this project by buying the Soul Brother OST, but you’re getting the whole 50$ from me whether you like it or not! 🙂

    No Linux option 🙁
    If it’s portable enough to stick in a browser window, it’s portable enough for Linux.
