LONE SURVIVOR: THE DIRECTOR’S CUT for Mac and PC
Lone Survivor: The Director’s Cut is out on PC & Mac today!
i’ve decided to release The Director’s Cut of Lone Survivor slightly earlier than planned so that the fans who own the Mac and PC versions can play The Director’s Cut together with the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita fans on Halloween.
despite taking ten months (and at times being a challenging project), i am really happy to give away The Director’s Cut as a 100% FREE update to anyone who has previously purchased the game on Mac or PC previously, in any form, including the Humble Bundle. it’s my way of saying thankyou for enabling me to make games long into the future by supporting the original release.
it really is a huge update, with a great deal of new content, new areas, complete remastering of visuals and lighting, new music, a new enemy, two new endings etc. i very much look forward to hearing your thoughts about the new edition, and interpretations of the new content… especially the secret endings!
also, the Mac and PC versions of the game will now include access to both the Original and the Director’s Cut versions of the game. you can continue your game from The Original Cut in the new version (*see IMPORTANT NOTE at the bottom of this post.)
anyway, to all the players who have supported the game and myself over this last year and a half, to the journalists whose kind words have helped the game reach new people, to the hardworking folk behind the scenes at Valve, Curve and Sony, to the many testers and supporters and of course to my family who’ve supported me all the way, i’d like to say what may be a final thankyou for your help with this game.
it’s been very long journey to reach this point, but i guess i could almost say i’m proud of the final result, and look forward to what the future may hold!
anyway i hope you enjoy the game, and…
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

today Lone Survivor: The Director’s Cut is available for:
Lone Survivor’s Website (DRM-free)
Good Old Games (DRM-Free)
Sony Entertainment Network (PS3 and PS Vita Cross-Buy)
A Pumpkin (actually can’t buy Lone Survivor: The Director’s Cut here)
*IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT SAVED GAMES & THE ORIGINAL CUT
Just a quick word of warning regarding moving from one version of the game to another. I wanted to include access to both versions of the game for purists. However, please be aware of the following when playing The Original Cut:
- You can continue your saved game from The Original Cut in The Director’s Cut at any point, without any issues.
- However, loading a saved game from The Director’s Cut will cause you to LOSE ALL NEW NEW GAME+ SIDEQUEST ITEMS.This is because The Original Cut does not include these items, and they will be trimmed from your inventory should you load the game in The Original Cut. All other aspects should work fine, but: BE SURE NOT TO CONTINUE A DIRECTOR’S CUT ‘NEW GAME+’ GAME IN THE ORIGINAL CUT.
- One other point to note is that you will not lose your ending collection should you decide to play through The Original cut, so don’t worry about starting a new playthrough to check it out!
To get hold of The Original Cut:
- On Steam, right-click the game in your library, select ‘Properties’, go to the ‘Betas’ tab, type ‘sleepycat’ into the password field, and select ‘The Original Cut’ from the menu. You can opt-out of this version via the same menu at any time.
- GOG has The Original Cut available as an optional download.
- The version on the official website has the Original Cut game packaged in a folder called ‘TheOriginalCut’.
Hi Jasper! Been following this game since pre-release and was more than happy to buy the original version, but I stopped playing around halfway through once I saw there’d be extra content in the Playstation versions, which I knew you’d bring our way eventually! I’m glad I waited because now I get to experience what I hope is your full vision for the game after almost another full year of work! I know that had to be super tiring.
I shall be starting a new game tonight and greatly look forward to it. That said, there still appears to be no native controller support! I’ll gladly use xpadder or Pinnacle Profiler if necessary, but I just wanted to ask if you ever planned to implement native gamepad support? If not, that’s fine — you’ve done more than enough on this! But it always helps to know ahead of time!
Anyway, great, great work and congrats on finally finishing this game completely. I’m glad it has sold well and I hope it sells even more!
Keep up your incredible work. I kept being drawn in by the look of this game and finally purchased it. Played it none stop all endings and I was so attatched to the story. Truly moving brought out my emotions at the end. Thank you
Thanks for the great update Jasper, this game was already in my top favorite games of all time, and playing through the new content made it that much more awesome!
Do you have any plans to port the achievements from the console version to Steam at some point? While they’re not exactly necessary, I tend to be a completionist, and the list of achievements for the PS3 and Vita (personally) got me excited! Just wondering.
Thanks again for the incredible game!
Thanks a lot Jasper. I’ve been out at an anime convention all weekend, so I haven’t seen your update and it came as a pleasant surprise in my inbox. I’m definitely playing through this game again many times.
Congratulations for the game and for this director’s cut 😀
My PC broke right before the Directors Cut launched…..
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
I see that the windows&osx versions of the Director’s cut are available for humble buyers. The linux builds are the same, though, and I don’t think that it will be updated.
Can people who purchased the first aid edition get an updated OST?
I couldn’t reach you via email in the last months so I’m trying also this channel: On March 29th 2012 I bought your game but cannot download it anymore. I also tried to contact fastspring where the file was hosted but without success. Anything I can do about that?
Best regards
Ansgar
hi there Ansgar,
i replied on email, but i think it’s worth posting this link for others who have the Fastspring version: http://superflatgames.com/wordpress/?p=802
it details how to get the latest update on Humble. however, the Humble-widget version of The Director’s Cut is not live yet, but should be sometime today. i’ll be sending out the latest batch of codes as soon as it is.
cheers,
jasper
Thank you!
Hi,
I bought it thinking the game will be in french but it isn’t (Steam) ?!
Unlike on Sony system.
Could you make something ?
Thanks
hi there,
the Sony versions were translated by Curve studios and as such i have no way of translating the game. it doesn’t support localisation, i’m afraid. there are no current plans for PC localisation. my previous blogpost lists the feature differences between the versions.
cheers,
jasper
Hooray! I must say, I really hope there’s an expanded soundtrack release forthcoming… and that’s something I wouldn’t mind paying twice for!
Wow that’s amazingly generous!
I bought the game from your website at launch and would like to play the directors cut version, however I don’t know where to get it?
First, thank you very much.
Secondelly, Why the french language is not available in the pc version of the director’s cut, while it is for the Ps3 version?
Thank you very much, Jasper!Words can’t express how incredible this is.
I bought the game last year on the Humble Store, may I ask how/where I can get the update?(I’ve browsed through some of your old posts, but I’m not sure if sending an email to Support still applies.)
-a fan of yours all the way from Taiwan
hi Tyle, the update is not yet live on the Humble store but should be sometime today (probably late US afternoon.) you should be able to get the update with the original email you received on purchase.
for support with Humble issues, go to https://www.humblebundle.com and click on Support in the top right.
cheers,
Jasper
Gotcha, thanks for the quick reply!
Does that apply if the game was purchased in the Humble Indie Bundle V as well (i.e. will the download there be updated)?
This is absolutely amazing, by the way. Thanks so much for all the support for us!
Yay! Thanks Jasper, Sony, Curve, Valve and everyone else involved.
